What is a school-based curriculum?
School-based curriculum is a school-based curriculum determined by the school itself, which corresponds to national curriculum and local curriculum.

School-based curriculum is a course decided by the school itself, and its development subject is teachers. Teachers can cooperate with experts, but it is not experts who write textbooks and use them. The model of teachers' curriculum development is practice-evaluation-development. In practice, teachers analyze the situation they face, evaluate students' needs, set goals, select and organize content, and decide the way of implementation and evaluation. At present, the main body of school-based curriculum development is the teacher group, not the individual teachers.

The development of school-based curriculum is mainly aimed at the development of national curriculum, while the development of local and characteristic curriculum is based on schools, realizing the democratization of curriculum decision-making. When making the curriculum plan, the state should delegate some power to schools, emphasize the curriculum operation at school and local level, and advocate teachers, students, parents of students and community representatives of schools to participate in curriculum decision-making.

Extended data:

The development of school-based curriculum can be based on systematic knowledge, long period and teacher's explanation, just like Chinese and mathematics. At present, the school-based curriculum developed by most schools is short-term, focusing on research-based learning and open learning, which is very similar to the comprehensive practical activity curriculum in nature and form, thus creating the impression that the school-based curriculum is a comprehensive practical activity curriculum and the comprehensive practical activity curriculum is a school-based curriculum.

There are three views on the emergence of school-based curriculum in the world:

1. First of all, people think that the history of school-based curriculum is almost as long as that of school education. In ancient times, the school curriculum was largely determined by the school itself to a certain extent. At that time, the curriculum was mainly school-based curriculum (which was investigated from the existing school-based curriculum form);

2. The second view holds that the idea of school-based curriculum originated from the western developed countries in 1970s, and that school-based curriculum is essentially a democratic decision-making process of school-based curriculum development, that is, principals, teachers, curriculum experts, students, parents and community members participate in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of school curriculum plans.

3. Finally, the school-based curriculum really appeared in the 1973 international seminar on "School-based Curriculum Development" held by Ulsterdan University in Ireland.
