Chongqing Library was founded in 1947, with a collection of more than 3 million books. It was the most comprehensive and well-preserved library in China during the Anti-Japanese War. It is also the library with the largest collection of ancient books and thread-bound books in southwest China, and it is one of the two earliest United Nations document repositories in China. Chongqing Library is a large-scale comprehensive public library in China, and it is the main document information collection, exchange and service center in Chongqing. In 2009, Chongqing Library took the lead in implementing free opening in the western region, and created a number of influential service brands, such as lectures on complex pictures, exhibitions on complex pictures, reading activities for children with sun flowers, and services for the visually impaired.
