Beijing Library
Beijing Library is the national library of China. This modern new library was built at 1988, located on the north side of Zizhuyuan in the western suburb west of the former site of Beijing Library. This is the largest library with the largest collection of books in China and Asia at present, and it is also one of the world-famous large libraries.
The predecessor of Beijing Library was the original "Shi Jing Library" built in 1909, which was mainly used to collect rare books and other ancient books. The original site is located in the west of Beihai Park and north of Jinwen Street Road, and was rebuilt in 1929— 193 1 year. The environment here is beautiful. It is a famous Imperial Palace in Ming Dynasty, and it is a farewell house for the royal family in the late Ming Dynasty. In the Qing dynasty, the palace was abandoned and a library was built, with an area of only 8,000 square meters. At the end of 1970s, the museum expanded to more than 50,000 square meters, with a collection of 1 1 10,000 volumes.
Although the history of Beijing Library is only over 80 years, its collection base can be traced back. Go back 700 years. It inherited some treasures from the Royal Library of the Southern Song Dynasty and the Royal Library of the Ming Dynasty at that time, and also collected a large number of rare books, series, local documents and other precious documents on the basis of imperial academy, the cabinet of the Qing Dynasty, and South School of imperial academy. Its collection of Siku Quanshu is the only complete set in Chinese mainland. In order to preserve and utilize the history and culture left over by thousands of years and make it play a greater role, Beijing Library has restored a large number of damaged ancient books. The museum also actively and emphatically collects some foreign publications; At present, there are more than 100 languages in Tibet, which reflect the political, economic and scientific development of countries around the world from different angles and provide necessary information for studying the situation of countries around the world.
The newly-built Beijing Library was completed in 1988. It is a group of buildings surrounded by multi-storey buildings. The main building has sixteen floors above ground and three floors underground. There are symmetrical courtyards in the building, and the roof is a classical form of China. The whole library covers an area of 70,000 square meters, with a building area of 6,543,800+7,000 square meters, including a library area of 60,000 square meters and a collection of more than 20 million books. There are more than 30 reading rooms and more than 3,000 seats. There are dozens of small research rooms with 6- 16 people, modern management equipment, exhibition halls and academic lecture halls. All this makes the old Beijing library young. In order to protect precious books, all kinds of rare books in the library have been microfilmed for readers to read. In the audiovisual room, people can see audiovisual materials from all over the world.
Beijing Library has established a collection system with China characteristics, which is playing an increasingly important role in China's modernization.
