National Library of Japanese Parliament; Overview of the National Library of Congress of Japan There are two origins of the National Library of Congress of Japan. One is the House Library of the House of Lords, which was established in 1890 and belonged to the Imperial Parliament under the old constitution, and the other is the Imperial Library, which was established in 1872 and belongs to the Ministry of Education. Among them, Imperial Library has undergone changes from library (1 872), Tokyo Library (1875), Tokyo House Library (1877), Tokyo Library (1880) to Imperial Library (1897). 1947 changed its name to National Library. As the Imperial Library was an institution that accepted books before the Second World War, its collection included all publications published in Japan after Meiji, and the collections of the two libraries became an important basis for NDL collection. Based on the model of the Library of Congress, this library was officially opened to ordinary readers on June 5th. 1948.
