1June, 1956, with the approval of the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture, Longyan County Cultural Center Library was expanded into Longyan County Library, located in two shops on the east side of Zhongshan West Road Public Theater, with an area of 108 square meter and a collection of 5,222 books. After 1958, Longyan County Library moved to No.29 Zhongshan Middle Road, with an area of 1400 square meters and a collection of 197600 volumes. Longyan Library was demolished in the autumn of 1998 due to the need of old city reconstruction. With the great attention and strong support of the municipal and district people's governments, Longyan Library broke ground on 200 1 and opened in September 2004.
