The long history of the school can be traced back to the Guangdong Agricultural Experimental Field and its affiliated agricultural workshops founded by 1909. 1952, during the adjustment of colleges and universities in China, the Agricultural College of Sun Yat-sen University and Lingnan University merged with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Pests and Diseases of Guangxi University to form South China Agricultural College, which belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture. 1984, renamed South China Agricultural University.
