Laozi's Tao Te Ching is a philosophical poem that initiated China's ancient philosophical thoughts, an ode to the vitality of human life, a philosophical motto of China, an intellectual giant's cognition of the universe, life, society, politics and military affairs, a great treasure of China culture and a brilliant sunrise in the history of China's thoughts. Five thousand years is exquisite and profound, from the universe to life, from material to spirit, from society to politics, countless and orderly. His thoughts seem to be hanging high in space, but in fact they are based on the world. He looks quiet, but full of love. He advocated "inaction" and the result was "inaction"; He kept silent, but actually "stepped on the brakes"; He is willing to "stay" but "take the lead"; Doing nothing is external quiet, do something positive inside. Tao Te Ching is full of beauty of love and wisdom. Lu Xun said: "If you don't read Laozi, you don't know the culture of China." Hu Shi said: "Laozi is the originator of China's philosophy and the first real philosopher in the history of China's philosophy."
In Luyi County, Henan Province, where Laozi was born, there are still many remains of Laozi and buildings commemorating Laozi in past dynasties. Such as Laojuntai (boarding Sendai), Taiqing Palace, Dong Xiao Palace, Hidden Yangshan (Yang Jiao), Jiulong Well, Confucius Courtyard, Laixianggou (Lixianggou), Li Mufen, Laozi Niuchang and other historical books have also left activities to commemorate Laozi in past dynasties, leaving many records of emperors, ministers and literati visiting. Emperor Huan of the Eastern Han Dynasty sent envoys to sacrifice Laozi many times. In the ninth year of Yan Xi (166), Emperor Huan personally offered sacrifices to Lao Zi in Zhuolonglong Palace, calling Lao Zi an old gentleman (Ten Records of Justin in the Later Han Dynasty). After the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong, recognized himself as the second empress of the old Gigi Lai, and sealed it in the first year of Tang Gaozong (666). The emperor visited Laozi's temple, chasing Laozi as the emperor of Taishang Xuanyuan (the old Tang book, Emperor Gaozong Xia Ji), Tianbao for two years (743), and chasing Laozi as the emperor of Dasheng Xuanyuan for eight years (749). In the 13th year of Tianbao (754), the emperor went to Taiqing Palace and was crowned Tianbao Emperor of Jinque Xuanyuan (The Story of Xuanzong in the Old Tang Dynasty). In the early Song Dynasty, Stegosaurus and Song Taizu sent envoys to visit Laozi (then called Zhenyuan) (Li Xin's History of Song Dynasty, Volume 7); During the reign, Lao Zi was promoted to the top of biographies and was forbidden to be named after Er, Yong and Bo Yang. I visited the Taiqing Palace in the seventh year of Song Zhenzong (10 14). Taiqing Palace was built in Yan Xi in the Eastern Han Dynasty for eight years (165). Originally called Laozi Temple, later called Laozi Temple. Li Longji, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, personally changed his name to Taiqing Palace, which has remained unchanged for more than 1000 years. In the Tang Dynasty, there were more than 600 Taiqing Palace, which was "like the residence of an emperor, with luxurious appearance" (Collection of Ancient and Modern Books). By the Yuan Dynasty, it still covered an area of 37,500 mu. Due to the later wind and rain erosion, there are well-preserved Taiji Hall, Notre Dame Hall, three white grasses of Tang Dynasty and Laozi's "Mountain Whip". There are at least eight ancient buildings in China, such as Laoshan Taiqing Palace and Shenyang Taiqing Palace, which were named Taiqing Palace in memory of Laozi. The Taiqing Palace, the hometown of Laozi in Lu Yi, Henan Province, has a long history and the most complete historical records. As a temple of the Tang royal family, it has been visited by many emperors. Laojuntai, located in the northeast corner of Luyi County, was founded in the early Tang Dynasty. It is an octagonal platform, made of gray bricks on the ground, with a main hall, temples attached to the left and right, and four green cypresses. Before and after the national liberation, party and state leaders Zhang Aiping, Hu Yaobang, Yang and Yang Dezhi visited Taiqing Palace and Laojuntai successively.
Lao Tzu's surname is Li. Today, all descendants of Li in the world will be proud of having such a great ancestor. It is the hometown of Laozi and the birthplace of Li. According to the records in the Book of the New Tang Dynasty and the Compilation of Yuanhe Surnames, Li was originally Li, who was the chief magistrate in charge of justice from generation to generation, but because the official got his surname, when he arrived, Li was not allowed to be straight and died because of offence. His wife and son Loretta Lee escaped and ate Mu Zi to survive. In gratitude for saving his life, he changed his name to Li. Married to Mr. and Mrs. Chen and lived in Guxian County. Therefore, it became the birthplace of Li, the most popular surname in China. According to the Records of Yuanhe, Loretta Lee's grandson is Li Er, a native of Qurenli, Guxian County, Li Xiang. Lao Tzu's hometown has established the Lao Tzu Society in Lu Yi, China, which has done a lot of fruitful work in developing and promoting Lao Tzu's academic thought research and promoting national traditional culture. For three consecutive years, three large-scale, high-standard and high-level conferences were held, namely, Laozi's birthday commemorative meeting, Laozi's academic seminar and economic and trade fair in Lu Yi, China, and Laozi's international seminar in Lu Yi, China. More than 500 experts, scholars, conservative fans and journalists from home and abroad have visited Lu Yi for academic research exchanges or interviews, and major newspapers, radio stations and TV stations at home and abroad have made special reports. China Lu Yi Lao Tzu Society has a wide influence at home and abroad, and has established regular contacts with more than 20 academic research institutions at home and abroad. The Society published 35 issues, published papers 16 in authoritative domestic and foreign academic newspapers, and filmed TV series Sleeping Fairy Chen Tuan and Li Chunqiu, which reflected the history and culture of Lu Yi. Edited and published books such as Engraved Translation of Tao Te Ching, Correction of Tao Te Ching, Textual Research of Lao Zi, One or two episodes of Lao Zi's Hometown Talking about Lao Zi, Introduction of Lao Zi's Hometown, Lu Yi Monuments, etc. In recent years, the people in Laozi's hometown raised more than 4 million yuan to actively carry out the restoration and reconstruction of Laozi's memorial site. Repair two ancient buildings, Laojuntai and Taiqing Palace. Laojuntai Archway, Taiqing Palace Gate, Chen Ting and Zi Qi Garden have been rebuilt and built. Designed as 19 story and 84.3 meters high, Laozi Memorial Tower is a tower integrating classical architectural art style and modern equipment, ranking first in China. Foundation pouring has been completed, with a depth of 22.2m and a tower height of 21.7m.. Lao Tzu Museum and Lao Tzu Library were established. Through hard work, Lu Yi will gradually form an academic research center of Laozi.
Laozi's hometown is Lu Yi, and Taoism and Taoist culture are rooted in Lu Yi. The study of Laozi's thought has entered a new era. Some old scholars at home and abroad are not satisfied with studying Laozi's thoughts in their own homes, and they have organized groups to find their roots in Laozi's birthplace. In recent years, groups visiting Lu Yi for sightseeing, tourism, pilgrimage and academic exchange have come from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Austria and Southeast Asian countries and regions. At present, a "Laozi fever" is rising all over the world.
Writers Qin Xincheng and Liu Shengyuan are directors of Laozi Society in Lu Yi, China. They traveled all over Qian Shan, read ancient and modern books, and determined to write biographies for the sages of their homeland. After ten years of hard and in-depth investigation, a biography of Laozi with more than 370,000 words was finally published by Huashan Literature and Art Publishing House in August 1992. The publication of this book caused a sensation in China's literary and historical circles, and was well received by readers. The overseas edition of People's Daily pointed out: "Biography:" Beautiful writing, profound philosophy, Li Er reborn, touching plot, tear-jerking, detailed information, from birth to death, true and vivid, profoundly and comprehensively reappearing Laozi's life. It is not only a good literary work, but also a good book on philosophy, science and history. "
As a world historical and cultural celebrity, Laozi's book Tao Te Ching has long been well-known at home and abroad, but it is the first time in history that this celebrity has really been handed down as a novel. This book has been printed many times in China and translated into English for overseas distribution, but it is still in short supply. Recently, I have written in succession, hoping to get this book. We don't buy goods either. En Qian's words are right only when the air fuels. At the request of readers, Huashan Literature and Art Publishing House decided to reprint the book on the basis of revision by two authors.
Laozi is a great historical figure and deserves a great book. I think the biographer's original intention in writing this book is not simply to describe Laozi's life, let alone to make a biography. The two authors want to inspire, spur and draw lessons from today's people by describing Laozi's thoughts and actions all his life, so that readers can draw wisdom and strength from Laozi and enhance our sense of reality and social responsibility from the sense of history. This is the preface to the reprint.
