Harbin Institute of Technology has 7 national key laboratories, 9 national engineering research centers and engineering laboratories, 1 national collaborative innovation center, 5 international joint centers/scientific and technological cooperation bases, and 4 1 ministerial key laboratories/research centers.

The library (1 area) mainly collects books on engineering, combining science and engineering with management disciplines; the library (area 2) mainly collects books on civil engineering, municipal and environmental engineering, traffic engineering and basic disciplines; and the building branch mainly collects books on architecture and urban planning disciplines. At the same time, all libraries have books on humanities and social sciences.
