The White House was not called "White House" when it was built. It was a gray sandstone building. It was destroyed by fire in the Second Anglo-American War in 18 12. After the war, all the gray stone walls were painted white to hide the traces of the fire kiss, and President theodore roosevelt officially named it "White House" on 1902.
