"Last year's survey was 4.25, the year before last was 3.88, and in 2008 was 4.75, so the general trend is to stabilize in fluctuations, but it is not optimistic. The nationwide reading survey started at 1999 and is now conducted once a year. It is a household survey of residents in about 50 cities in 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government, with the participation of professional companies such as CCTV Market Research Company and Zero Survey Company, and about 20,000 samples are obtained. The content of the questionnaire covers books, periodicals, audio-visual and internet.
