Lianyuan No.1 Middle School was founded by the famous educator Mr. Liao Shicheng, 1938, and now it is directly under Lianyuan Education Bureau. Qian Zhongshu, a great literary master at that time, once taught here and wrote the world famous work Fortress Besieged based on a Buddhist teacher.
1946, the former site of the National Teachers College was converted into the fifteenth middle school of the province; 1952, giving it its current name; 1980 was designated as a provincial key middle school, and now it is a "model ordinary high school in Hunan Province".
