Hengyang Library, 1988, was rated as a national first-class library by the Ministry of Culture, and it is the only municipal public library preserved in the province since the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is mainly responsible for collecting, sorting, preserving, developing, utilizing and transmitting literature resources, and developing public cultural services of libraries.
Hengyang Library was established on 19 17 and opened on 192 1. It was once called Hengyang Public Library, Provincial Hengyang Library, and Hengyang Chuanshan Library, and it was the only municipal public library in Hunan Province that was preserved in New China. The building has been moved many times and its name has been changed many times. The current name was fixed at 1966, and then moved to the current address 1975. In 2009, it began comprehensive maintenance and renovation, resumed normal service in July 20 10, and opened it free of charge in September 2010/year.
The existing building area of Hengyang Library is 36,480 square meters, including newspaper department, lending department, editing and modern technology department, special literature department, counseling activity department and office, with external service windows 10. There are more than 560,000 books, including more than 80,000 ancient books of the Republic of China, and more than 20,000 local documents such as Hengyang celebrity works represented by Wang Chuanshan, which are the most precious. The collection of ancient books and rare books are among the best in the country. In addition to ancient books and local documents, books and periodicals are borrowed from open shelves and computer automation management is implemented; In 2004, Hengyang Branch of Cultural Enjoyment Project was established and the website of Hengyang Library was opened. In 2006, he joined the digital resources of Hunan Provincial Public Library and established the * * * collaboration network.
Hengyang Library has successively undertaken national academic activities such as "Investigation on the Living Conditions of Hengyang Public Library" and "The First Volunteer Action in library society of china", which has made important contributions to the development of the national library cause and exerted great influence in the whole country.
