The most impressive thing about Xu Wei's oil paintings is the dazzling light. Often a lonely person is lost in the light of the sun, and the distant sky is often gloomy, which forms a very strong contrast with the people and things bathed in the sun in a large area in the painting. The seemingly calm scene seems to be experiencing some kind of fierce collision, and there will be different versions of the story in front of different audiences. This painting is full of mysterious atmosphere and intriguing stories. Authors often use realistic and symbolic methods to express the truth in people's hearts by borrowing unreal scenes. In terms of painting techniques, Yang Feiyun, Zhu Chunlin, Xin Dongwang and other famous realistic painters in China have been handed down from generation to generation, and they also benefited from Xu Wei's decades-long solid basic painting skills, making full use of the characteristics of oil paints, making the picture shine, abandoning the flashy and cold brushwork, and instead highlighting the wonderful and subtle changes in colors in the painting. Xu Weichang said: collectors make great efforts to collect works, and they were not tired of seeing them six months ago! Yes, the eternity of the work is the author's lifelong pursuit. Wei Xu's 100 oil paintings have been collected by collectors in China, the United States, Canada, Spain and many other countries.

Wei Xu is also determined to teach, and wants to pass on his years of painting experience to the younger generation. During the interval of painting creation, he also accumulated rich teaching experience and trained a group of accomplished students.

In 2007, Wei Xu won the Bole Award at the 5th Canadian Children's International Art Exhibition.

Wei Xu also created 10 children's illustrated books, all of which were selected by the Toronto Library. It is not easy for the works of foreign immigrants to be accepted by the National Library of Canada, which was widely reported by many media at the beginning.
