Legal translation methods
It goes without saying that the primary criterion of legal English translation is accuracy, which is commonly called "faithfulness". However, the accuracy and rigor of legal style cannot deny the fact that vague words appear in legal documents.

First of all, variation translation

Sometimes, a word is used to express a vague concept in one language, and an equivalent word in another language is used to express the same vague concept in translation, which is called fuzzy translation.

Second, the ellipsis method

Judge Douglas opposes the death penalty because it is carried out in a way that discriminates against unpopular minorities.

Justice Douglas opposes the death penalty because the way it is executed discriminates against unpopular minorities.

This is a vague word in English, which means "like this". There is no translation here.

Third, equivalent translation method.

Although there is semantic fuzziness, and the fuzziness of words in English and Chinese is not the same, this does not hinder the literal translation between these two different languages.

In fact, in some cases, especially when the drafters of legal documents may intentionally use fuzzy words, we can adopt fuzzy equivalent translation, that is, translating fuzzy words in one language into fuzzy words in another language.
