Wuling District is located in northern Hunan, north of central Changde and west of Dongting Lake. It is the seat of Changde municipal government and the political, economic and cultural center of Changde city and even northwest Hunan. The registered population is 431441(2021year).
Wuling District is an ancient north-south transportation hub, and it is also a traffic artery that returns to eastern Guizhou and commands Jiangsu and Anhui. There are mainly scenic spots in the territory, such as Liuye Lake and Changde Poetry Wall, which have been selected as the top 100 regions in China and the top 100 industrial regions.
The place name Wuling first appeared in the early years of the Western Han Dynasty.
During the Xin Mang period, Wuling County was changed to Jianping County, Linyuan County to Jianyuan County, and Yiling County to Jiang Lu County, which still belonged to Jingzhou.
Jianyuan County was renamed Linyuan in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Liling in Jiang Lu and Wuling in Jianping County. Ling 12 counties: Linyuan, Hanshou [the county in the Western Han Dynasty was renamed in the third year of Yangjia (A.D. 134) and moved to Jingzhou to govern here], Liling, Lingling, Chongyuan, Chenyang, Youyang, Ganling, Chengcheng, Yuannan [in the 26th year of Jianwu (Jianwu).
During the Three Kingdoms period, Wuling County was still in the territory (now Wuling District and most of Dingcheng District in Changde City), which belonged to Shu first and then to Wu. In 263, Emperor Han Jing changed Hanshou County to Wushou County, with Lingling, Chongxian Nan 'an County and Tianmen County in the west. At this time, Jingzhou has been moved from Hanshou to Jiangling, Hubei.
Wuling County only governs the forest garden, Wushou (which governs the western part of Hanshou County and the eastern part of Dingcheng District), Longyang (which was established in the Eastern Han Dynasty and governs the eastern part of Hanshou County), Yuannan, Yuanling, Chenyang, Qianyang, Ganling, Chengcheng, Youyang and Wuyang in Yuanshui River Basin, and no longer governs the counties in Lishui River Basin.
During the Western Jin Dynasty, there was basically no big change in the setting of Wuling County and the areas under its jurisdiction. At this time, Wushou County in Wu Dong period has been restored to the old name of Hanshou County.
