Kangxi Dictionary is a Chinese character dictionary compiled by Zhang Yushu, Chen Tingjing and others on the orders of Qing Emperor Kangxi. It was compiled on the basis of dictionaries and orthography in Ming Dynasty. The compilation of this book began in the forty-ninth year of Kangxi (17 10) and was completed in the fifty-fifth year of Kangxi (17 16), which lasted six years, so it was named Kangxi Dictionary. It is 500 to 700 years later than the Song Dynasty (960- 1279).
