1. A Brief History of Gelao Nationality in Guangxi (Huang Xianfan)

Although this book is a "brief history", it covers a wide range, covering the distribution and origin of Zhuang nationality, social organization, history of revolutionary struggle, production, food and clothing, wedding and funeral customs, culture and art, language and writing, education and so on. There are many articles about the improvement of Zhuang people's life and the development of various undertakings after the founding of New China. Compared with A Brief History of Zhuang Nationality (first draft of 1963, officially published in 1980), this new model obviously inherits the general new model of A Brief History of Zhuang Nationality. Huang mentioned "primitive disorderly marriage", "couple marriage" and "monogamy" in A Brief History of Gelao Nationality in Guangxi, and quoted Morgan's viewpoint on the evolution of monogamy in ancient society. At the same time, his explanation of "not leaving the in-laws' family" in the marriage custom of Zhuang nationality also belongs to Morgan's single-line evolution theory. It can be seen that Huang realized in his early years that the stage of social development was not carried out in accordance with the Marxist-Leninist model. The above characteristics of A Brief History of Gelao Nationality in Guangxi were rare (not all) in ethnography before the founding of New China. From this perspective, A Brief History of Gelao Nationality in Guangxi undoubtedly belongs to the pioneering work of a new model of ethnographic description under the socialist system.
