The National Library of China is located at No.33, Zhongguancun South Street, Beijing, adjacent to the Gaoliang River in Baishiqiao and Zizhuyuan Park in Haidian District. It is one of the largest and most advanced national libraries in the world.
The National Library of China has a total construction area of 280,000 square meters. The library is divided into the south area of the main library, the north area of the main library and the ancient books library. The main buildings in the south area of the main library are twin-tower high-rise buildings, double eaves, glazed tile roofs with empty sparrow columns, light cream tile exterior walls, stone steps on granite bases and white marble railings. The whole building is blue, which means beware of fire and water.
There are 37,686,200 books in the collection, including nearly 2 million ancient books, and the total amount of digital resources exceeds 1000TB. It is the largest library in Asia and ranks third among the national libraries in the world. The library has 25 reading rooms, more than 5,000 reading seats, 1529 employees and 33 institutional departments.
Instructions for entering the library
1. The open-shelf lending area of this library is open to readers aged 13. Readers aged from 13 to 15 must enter with the national library reader's card, and other readers must enter with the national library reader's card or the second-generation resident ID card.
2. The closed-shelf lending area of our library is open to readers who are over 16 years old and hold the reader's card of the National Library.
3. Children's Museum accepts/kloc-children aged 0/5 and below, and enters with a reader's card. Preschool children must be accompanied by a guardian, and the accompanying guardian (limited to one person) can enter with valid documents.
Please take good care of your personal belongings. Large luggage (larger than 18.4cm× 13cm) and other articles unrelated to borrowing must be stored in the luggage storage office free of charge with a valid reader card or ID card.
5. Please don't bring personal books, periodicals and newspapers (including books borrowed from our library) into the reading area for self-study.
