The new National Library of China is a key cultural project in the Tenth Five-Year Plan. After more than three years of intense construction by China Railway Construction Group, the second phase of the National Library was officially opened on September 9, 2008. This modern digital library will become the largest Chinese literature collection base in the world and the most advanced information network service base in China. After the opening of the second phase of the new library, the National Library added 2,900 reader seats, increased its daily reception capacity by 8,000 people, and reached a building area of 250,000 square meters, making it the third largest library in the world after the Library of Congress and the Moscow Library.
