1953, based on the Department of Political Science and Law of Southwest People's Revolutionary University, merged the then Chongqing University Law School, Sichuan University Law School, Chongqing University of Finance and Economics Law Department, Guizhou University Law Department and Yunnan University Law Department to formally establish Southwest University of Political Science and Law. Mr. Guo Moruo inscribed the name of the college, and the first president was General Zhou Baozhong.
65438-0958, Chongqing Branch of Central Public Security College was merged into the school. 1993 became the authorized unit of doctoral degree; 1995 was renamed Southwest University of Political Science and Law; In 2003, it became the first batch of authorized units for doctoral degrees in first-class disciplines of law.
