Architectural introduction:
The first intercontinental world center building was completed in 1990. Its neighbor, inside the Los Angeles Central Library, was destroyed by fire at 1926 and was originally planned to be demolished. Because the building above it was sold to the first interstate world center building, the library was restored and modernized, and at the same time, the building can be built to the current 75-story height.
The architects who designed the first national standard center building respected the design of the library, and the base and body of the tower were simple in appearance and rarely decorated. Only the polyhedral crown at the top of the tower is glass, and it is brightly lit at night.
The base is only 26 miles away from the San Andreas fault, and the building structure is designed to resist an earthquake measuring 8.3 on the Richter scale. Its structure should not only be flexible enough to absorb the earthquake force, but also be rigid enough to resist the wind force borne by such a high building. The bending steel frame of the eaves (designed to have toughness and seismic capacity) bears horizontal thrust together with the 74-square-foot rigid inner tube that runs through the whole height. The first interstate world center building is the tallest building in the world in the 4-level earthquake-resistant zone.
The tower consists of simple cylinders and overlapping prisms. The cylinder first appeared under the tree crown and became the main geometric shape. The curved surface with little curvature relieves the sensory impact of such a huge volume on the base, and also makes the bottom of the building more harmonious with the library across the street. The ground of the colonnade has a certain sense of emptiness, which makes passers-by feel more cordial.
The Benke Mountain staircase (a memorial staircase and a cascade of waterways) has become a walking link between the tower and nearby office and shopping buildings.
The first National Cup World Center Building became the focus of Los Angeles, and its symbol was: 1997 "destruction". The so-called destruction means that in the film Independence Day, it is the first building in the film to be attacked by alien invaders.
