The library of South China Agricultural University originated from the library of Guangdong Public Agricultural College established by 1909. 1953, the former library of Sun Yat-sen University and the library of Agricultural College of Lingnan University were merged and diverted, and the library of South China Agricultural College was established by receiving books and equipment from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department of Agricultural College of Guangxi University. 1984 was renamed South China Agricultural University Library.

There are three libraries in the campus of South China Agricultural University, namely, the general library located behind the school administration building, the teaching branch 4 located at the southwest end of the third floor of the school teaching building, and the teaching branch 5 located on the seventh floor of Building A of the school teaching building. Literature resources cover all the school-running disciplines of Huanong.
