Tangshan, referred to as "Tang", is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hebei Province. It is located in the east of Hebei Province, northeast of North China Plain, bordering Bohai Sea in the south, Yanshan Mountain in the north and Beijing and Tianjin. It is located in the throat of North China and Northeast China. Tangshan produced the first mechanized coal mine, the first standard gauge railway, the first steam locomotive and the first barrel of machine-made cement in China. Tangshan is the birthplace of China Pingju, known as "Three Flowers in East Hebei", with shadow play, Pingju and Laoting drums, which is a national intangible cultural heritage.
