Brief introduction to the Library of Congress
The Library of Congress is the national library of the United States and the largest library in the world. It moved to Washington, DC on 1800, mainly serving Congress and shouldering the functions of the National Library of the United States. Located on Capitol Hill in Washington, the building consists of Jefferson Building, Adams Building and Madison Building, with a total area of 340,000 square meters. It has 30 million books, covering 470 languages and more than 58 million manuscripts. It is the largest collection of rare books in the United States, including the Gutenberg Bible, more than 1 million American government publications, 1 million newspapers from all over the world and 33,000 newspapers spanning three centuries. In addition, many legal documents, movies, 4.8 million maps and 2.7 million pieces of music have been preserved.
