The Historical Evolution of Shaoxing Library
With the rapid development of librarianship in the information age, the modernization of management means, the rapid increase of library collections and readers, the continuous expansion of service fields and the acceleration of knowledge updating, Duchang Fangkou Library, built by Shaoxing Luxun Library in the 1980s, has become relatively backward and cannot meet the needs of all aspects. Building a new library with larger scale and more complete facilities has become the consensus of all walks of life. In May 2000, the new Yan 'an Road Library of Shaoxing officially opened. The new Shaoxing Library is located at No.565 Yan 'an Road, Yuecheng District, covering an area of 20,000 square meters, with a building area of 1 0.7 million square meters, a collection of books of110,000 volumes, nearly10.5 million reader seats, nearly 300 lecture halls and nearly 500 square meters of exhibition halls. In June 2006, the new Children's Library of Shaoxing Library was officially completed and put into use, with an area of 3,000 square meters. Shaoxing Library takes Xin Yan 'an Road in the downtown as the main library, and Gu Yue Library on Shengli West Road and Longhua Buddhist Branch on Dusimen Road as branches. In addition, 70 book circulation stations outside the library have been set up in mountainous areas, military camps, communities, schools and government agencies.
