Chengdu University of Technology, referred to as "Li Cheng", is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Sichuan Province and Chengdu, it is a national "double-class" construction university. Selected into "11/plan", outstanding engineer education and training plan, national college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training plan, basic capacity building project of central and western universities, national postgraduate project of building high-level universities, national new engineering research and practice project, national key discipline project with national characteristics, national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, CDIO engineering education alliance, etc.

Approved by the State Council on 1956, the school was established on the basis of the Department of Geology of Chongqing University, the Department of Engineering of Nanjing University and the Department of Geology of Northwest University. At the same time, some cadres and teachers from Beijing Institute of Geology (now China University of Geology), Northeast Institute of Geology (now Jilin University) and Jiaotong University were transferred to form the original name of Chengdu Institute of Geology.
