China Standard Book Number (ISBN) is an international publication numbering system. It was formulated by China SBN Center on the basis of International Standard Book Number (1SBN), and was officially implemented in China on June 20 10/987+1 0/0. The implementation of China Standard Book Number can effectively improve the modern management level of China's book publishing and information work, make each version of each publication published by Chinese publishing houses have a unique identification code in the world, realize more efficient publishing trade management and information exchange by using computers or other modern technologies, create conditions for classified statistics and sales display of publications, and promote the exchange between China publishing industry and international book industry.
I. Structure of China Standard Book Number
The structure of China Standard Book Number (ISBN) consists of an international standard book number (1SBN) and a book classification and classification number. The first part of China Standard Book Number (ISBN) is the main part of this numbering system and can be used independently. It consists of 10 digits, separated by a hyphen "one", and is divided into four parts, which respectively represent the group number, publisher number, book number and parity bit. The lengths of the other three segments are variable, except that the parity bit is fixed at one bit, but the sum of the digits of these three segments must be nine bits, and a parity bit is added, so that the digits of the serial number length 1SBN are always equal to 10. When the parity bit is 10, it is represented by the capital letter "X", and when the parity bit is 1 1, it is represented by "O".
(a) the structure of the international standard book number:
1, group number. This paragraph represents the country of the publisher. Geographical area. The number of a language or other grouping feature. The group number is set and assigned by the International 1sBN Center, and the number of digits assigned to China by the International Book Number Center is "7", which can publish 1 100 million books.
2. Publisher number. This paragraph represents the number of a publisher (publishing house, publishing company, exclusive distributor, etc.). ) belongs to the group area. The publication number is set and assigned by the 1SBN center of the country or region to which it belongs, and the length can be 1 ~ 7 digits. China's publication number is assigned by China 1SBN Center, which is divided into five grades with a length of 2-6 digits. The first two digits of ISBN, namely group number and publisher number, are collectively called "publisher prefix", which is the standard code of the only publisher in the world.
3. Book serial number. This paragraph indicates the serial number of a specific publication published by a specific publisher. Every book has a book number, which is assigned by the publishing house itself. Generally, the serial numbers can be numbered according to the order of publication time. The number of digits of the book serial number is constant, and its number is 9 MINUS the number of digits of the publisher prefix.
4. Check the position. This is the last digit of 1SBN, which is used to check the errors in the transcription of 1SBN.
(2) the structure of book classification and category number:
The second part of the China Standard Book Number (ISBN) is arranged behind (or below) the ISBN 1SBN, separated by diagonal lines (or horizontal lines). Compared with the national ISBN used in China in the past, the ISBN system lacks book classification marks. In view of the fact that a considerable part of China's publishing information industry is still manually classified, shelved, catalogued and built cards, it is very necessary to print classification marks on books.
1. The book classification number is compiled by the publishing house according to the subject category of books and referring to the basic categories of Chinese Library Classification. Among them, industrial technology books are given according to the second category, so the code of this section is 1 ~ 2 Chinese phonetic alphabet. The classification number is not input into the computer, and is used for book classification, shelving, cataloging and card building, which creates favorable conditions for book classification statistics and book sales and display in bookstores.
2. The serial number is the serial number of similar books published by the same publishing house, which is given by the publishing house itself, and its maximum number shall not exceed the book number in the third paragraph of ISBN number. In addition, some books add specific words after the Chinese standard book number, such as publications in minority languages, and add the words "people's language"; Less reading materials, plus the word "er"; Textbooks, add the word "class" and so on.

Bar code knowledge
Barcode began in the 1970s, and has been widely used in all kinds of commodities internationally, providing great convenience for commercial activities and commodity management. 1988, China Commodity Coding Center was established, and bar codes were widely used in various fields in China, including publications. 199 1 April, China was officially accepted as an international member of ean, and the barcode prefix code was "69965438".
Barcode, also called barcode, is composed of a group of lines with different widths, black and white, parallel and adjacent, and is equipped with a code record composed of corresponding characters to express some information.
The meaning of a set of regularly arranged bars and spaces in bar code: bars are the parts with low reflectivity in bar code, that is, black or colored stripes; Empty is the part with high reflectivity in the bar code, that is, the white or colorless stripe part. Bar code is an automatic identification technology, and it is a special code that uses photoelectric scanning reading equipment to input data to the computer. This code includes product name, specification, price and so on.
First, the use function of affinity code
(1) automatic reading recognition. As long as the label of the bar code is scanned with a scanning reader, the computer can automatically read and identify, determine the code of the goods, then find the price, do accumulation and so on. , summary settlement, output the total amount. It is fast and accurate.
(two) the classification, summary and analysis of commodity sales information is conducive to the smooth operation and management activities.
(3) The sales information can be fed back to the production unit in time through the computer network, so as to reduce the time-space difference of information transmission between production, supply and sales.
Second, EAN commodity affinity code
EAN is the abbreviation of European article code and ean international. The member countries (or regions) participating in the association are called EAN member countries (or regions), and the codes of EAN bar codes are stipulated respectively. EAN barcode is universal commodity bar code. EAN barcode consists of a 12 digit product code and a check code. The first three digits of 12 are the prefix number, the middle four digits are the manufacturer code, representing an enterprise, and the last five digits are the product code.
Third, use bar codes in publications.
The barcode used in the publication is EAN 13. The book barcode prefix code of ISBN system is "978", and the periodical barcode prefix code of 1SBN system is "977". Bar codes of publications are generally printed in the lower left corner of the back cover (or cover) of books (periodicals), and the bar code direction is parallel (or vertical) to the spine of the book. You can also print the barcode in the lower left corner of the second cover as required. When the spine is on the right, the bar code should be printed in the lower right corner of the back cover (or cover), and the bar code direction is parallel (or vertical) to the spine, or it can be printed in the upper right corner of the second cover.
