Yantai University is a provincial key comprehensive university that was born at the beginning of reform and opening up. The school was established in July, 1984. Under the cordial care of Wan Li, the former acting prime minister of the State Council, it was aided by Peking University and Tsinghua University.

The school covers an area of 2 100 mu, with a building area of 1.0 1.98 million square meters, and the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 5 1.2 million yuan. At present, the Science and Education Park of Yantai University has started construction in Yantai Development Zone with a planned area of 1.200 mu and a planned construction area of 670,000 square meters.

At present, there are two national technology transfer centers, the Ministry of Education 1 Key Laboratory, the National Ethnic Affairs Commission 1 Research Base of Ethnic Theory and Policy and 1 National Intellectual Property Training Base.

Cooperation and communication:

At present, the school has three Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate programs with universities in the United States, South Korea and Italy, and has carried out inter-school student exchange programs with 44 friendly universities in the United States, Britain, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan Province Province of China, including the Portsmouth University Foundation Program and the Korean Study Abroad Program.
