Design country-Finland
No country values design as much as Finland.

Before coming to Finland, I heard from my classmates that Helsinki, the capital of Finland, was once chosen as the "design capital". I'm actually curious about what the design capital looks like. After I came and visited Helsinki, I couldn't feel better. How can you call me by this name? However, as I stayed in Finland for more and more time and walked into Finland more and more, I realized that design was integrated into the blood of Finns.

For Finland, apart from Nokia and Angry Birds, there is also design, which is one of Finland's pillar industries. Aalto, where I attended, happened to be the top school in Finland famous for its design, and its design major ranked in the top ten in the world. Walking into the School of Design at a close distance gave me a brand-new perspective to understand Finnish design.

Design into life

In Finland, as long as you put your heart into it, you will find designs everywhere.

From the library standing in the center of the city to a chair and a lamp, all the efforts are practical. Design is for life, not independent of life.

What impressed me most were Aalto's School of Design and Finland's library.

When I first arrived in Aalto, I was deeply shocked by the design and decoration of the School of Design. Compared with regular universities, it looks more like an art museum, with all-white colors, super-high height, black chandeliers, red sofas, desks and lamps just right. When people come into contact with the artistic atmosphere and environment, they will gradually fall in love with this culture.

After the completion of the School of Management, apart from the practical wooden stairs, the chair in the study room on the second floor impressed me the most. These chairs are not small. They are said to be the masterpieces of a famous Finnish designer. The design of the chair meets the functional requirements of the human body. A chair is expensive, but the college puts these chairs in a public area where anyone can sit.

Another typical example is the public library located in the golden zone of central Finland. The new library 20 19 is open to all citizens free of charge. Every layer of design, both in appearance and interior, is a concentrated expression of Finnish design. It is often seen that a Finnish family comes to the library to read books on weekends, and many people push strollers. The library is divided into several layers, and each layer has its own functions, aiming at encouraging citizens to enter reading.

I especially like sitting on the steps of the reading area on the third floor in winter afternoon, smoking a book, and looking at the snow outside when I am tired ... The National Museum of Finland is far away.

Designer culture

In the course of design school, I met designers who have returned to work, and design institute students who are about to enter the design industry.

This experienced female designer told me that there are many independent designers like her in Finland who serve different design projects. What she said is very common, just like talking about the project manager of an Internet company in China. The design industry in Finland is a huge industry with many employees. Finland respects designer culture.

The teacher once took us to visit the former residence of Finnish design masters, which was well preserved. For them, this is something to be proud of.

Design factories are very popular in Finland. They simplify the design and realize the perfect combination of art and science.
