The library of Yunnan University for Nationalities was established in 195 1. The new building was completed on 199 1. It is a six-story quadrangle with glass fiber reinforced plastic ceiling, covering an area of 8659 square meters. It is magnificent, beautiful, with good lighting and reasonable layout. It is the best place for readers to study and research. Mr. Chu Tunan wrote an inscription, and Premier Zhou Enlai wrote a stone tablet entitled "Studying for the Rise of China". The branch library covers an area of 585.6 square meters. A new library is being built in Chenggong new campus, covering an area of 39,850 square meters. The library has 32 reading rooms. These include: reference reading rooms for arts and sciences, teachers' postgraduate reading rooms, "Two Courses" reference reading rooms, "Five Discharges Wise Library" reading rooms, thread-bound reading rooms for ethnic ancient books, ancient books reading rooms, Chinese reading rooms for ethnic local documents, foreign books reading rooms, books donated by the Asia Foundation, internal reference reading rooms, collection reading rooms, electronic reading rooms, students' study rooms, etc.
