Nantong University is a comprehensive university jointly established by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the Ministry of Transport, and a member of fifteen key universities in Jiangsu Province. In 2004, it was formed by the merger of Nantong Medical College, Nantong Institute of Technology and Nantong Normal College. Its main predecessor, private Nantong University, was formed by the merger of private Nantong Medical University, private Nantong Textile University and private Nantong Agricultural University in 1928, with Zhang Xiaoruo as the first president. As there was no Textile College in the Organic Law of the University of the Republic of China, the private Nantong University was renamed Nantong College in June 1930+065438+ 10. Nantong Teachers College was formed by the merger of former Nantong Teachers College and Nantong Education College. 1999. Nantong Medical College and Nantong Institute of Technology were formerly private secondary colleges of Nantong University/Nantong College respectively. 1952, when the departments were adjusted, the departments of agriculture, textile and medicine under the private Nantong University were split and moved out one after another. The Medical Department stayed in Nantong to establish Nantong Branch of Suzhou Medical College (later developed into Nantong Medical College), the Textile Department was rebuilt in the name of Nantong Branch on 1977 (later developed into Nantong Institute of Technology), and the Agriculture Department has not been rebuilt so far (as of September 20 15).
