Gaoyi Ancient Residence is located in Gaoyi Village, Gaoyi Township, 48km away from Huitong County, the hometown of Li Yu, the first general of China, and 80km away from Huaihua City. There are 594 households and 2205 villagers in the village, 85% of whom are Yang and Dong, descendants of Yang Zaisi, the "Weiyuan Hou" in the Southern Song Dynasty.
The whole village is a large-scale and well-preserved Ming and Qing residential building discovered in China so far. There are 104 ancient residential buildings built from the 13th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty to the 7th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1380 ~ 188 1), with a total construction area of 19465438+. In 2000, Hunan Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau recommended to declare the national key cultural relics protection units.
