This library is built in Beijing Xishiku Church. This church was established during the reign of Kangxi, when two religious leaders cured Emperor Kangxi of his illness, and Kangxi gave them this land. Let them set up a church, which is the predecessor of the present Xishiku Church, formerly called the Salvation Church.
The main building is the Salvation Hall, and there are many ancillary buildings next to it, including a library. Later, when Cixi saw that these buildings were not pleasing to the eye, she handed them over to Li Hongzhang for handling, and took these churches to Xishiku to rebuild their previous appearance. The library has also been directly turned over and established more formally.
The collection of Xishiku Church is a collection of European ideas in the 20th century, which supports the exchange of western cultures, especially the spread of western learning to the east. At that time, a missionary started the era of learning from the West and spreading to the East, but died a year later.
Later, the Jinnige Pavilion in Belgium came and he translated the memoirs of the first missionary on his way back to China five years later. And published this book, after which many European missionaries went to China to preach.
In the forty-seventh year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty, Jinnige Pavilion arrived in Macau with a large number of books, which were transported to the mainland in batches and arrived at Xishiku Library. He followed the preaching of the first missionary to promote books. In order to collect new books and musical instruments, Giniger traveled all over Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and other countries, and finally collected more than 7,000 hardcover books.
