Here I would like to mention the organizer of GMAT, GMAC (full name "Graduate Management Admissions Committee"), which is a joint committee composed of the world's leading non-profit business schools, headquartered in the United States. GMAC has always been committed to serving global business education institutions and students with potential management talents. Simply put, it is to help enterprises find outstanding management talents and hold seminars in the industry through authoritative evaluation methods.
Why do I mention this organizer?
Because I found that many candidates are easy to fall into misunderstanding when preparing for the exam, especially domestic students. As an experienced person, when I first came into contact with GMAT, I also followed the traditional review routine in China, starting with the tactics of asking questions about the sea! I finished the whole OG in less than a month, and I still feel very efficient. As a result, I didn't get 600 points in the first exam and decided to cancel the score on the spot. After learning from a painful experience, I found that I didn't consider the questioner's intention at all during the whole review process.
When you get used to the traditional examination in China, you may fall into such a misunderstanding-you can improve your grades by constantly brushing questions, and the more you brush, the more confused you will be, and in the end it will become a back question instead of improving your ability. In fact, in an exam like GMAT, we will find that there are very few real and simulated questions. First, because the official rarely publishes these real questions; Second, it is enough to do several sets of quality real questions and simulation questions in the review stage, focusing on quality rather than quantity.
In order to stabilize the output in the examination room, we must first master the correct preparation posture, avoid going into misunderstanding, and smoothly start the road of GMAT learning and upgrading!
GMAT is an exam to help colleges and universities select management talents, so it mainly examines students' business thinking, specifically, they have the following abilities:
Time management ability
Each part of the 0 1GMAT exam is timed separately. Once you click Exit, you cannot enter this module. Unlike some exams, which only have a total time limit, candidates can't leave more time for writing or math. Moreover, it takes 62 minutes for math and 65 minutes for Chinese to complete more than 30 questions, so each question is allocated less than 2 minutes.
Students should control the time for reviewing the first 10 questions, giving time for difficult questions and reading articles. If you don't do a good job in time management training when reviewing, candidates will be flustered when they see the countdown clock on the screen in the examination room. Once the rhythm goes wrong, even simple questions will go wrong.
02 determination
Another thing that makes it difficult for candidates to adapt to the GMAT exam is that GMAT can't skip questions and correct answers! When a question is finished, it is over, and you can't look back or modify it. This may make many students crazy, alas! No way ~ so be decisive ~ this is also the difficulty of GMAT exam, so you can study your business thinking ~
Immediate determination is directly related to the principle of GMAC's selection of management talents. In the workplace, many times we have to make a quick decision and there is no way to take back what we said. Especially senior managers, the higher the position, the greater the responsibility, and it is difficult to be competent without determination.
03 critical thinking ability
The critical thinking mentioned here means that we look for the best answer rather than the correct answer in the GMAT exam, and this ability is most obvious in logical reasoning questions. We can clearly judge the correct answer in math problems, but there may be two correct answers in logic problems, which answer is better for candidates to choose.
This is also the lifeblood of domestic candidates. Since childhood, domestic education is hard, and logic education is not so systematic and clear.
After GMAT, I deeply realized the importance of logic. Management talents need to keep a clear head at all times and find the context and framework of things accurately in an event in order to find the best way to solve things.
AWA writing test takes 30 minutes to write a composition of 300~500 words, with a perfect score of 6.
30 minutes 12 questions in the IR comprehensive management exam (full score of 8, no score of 4) with full score of 8.
Quantify mathematics for 62 minutes 3 1 problem, out of 5 1 minute.
Oral Chinese takes 65 minutes and 36 questions, out of 5 1.
There will be two 8-minute breaks in the middle of the exam, so it will take about 4 hours overall.
0 1 analytical writing
This section will require you to make a critical assessment of the arguments provided. Candidates don't need to express their opinions on the topic, that is, they don't need to talk about things. Analytical writing doesn't account for much in GMAT, and it doesn't need how beautiful the candidate's language is, but it must be reasonable.
Example: In an editorial of a business news monthly, there is such an obvious sentence: "Most companies will agree that this is a threat to their physical interests. The increase in jobs should also increase the wages paid to employees. Therefore, it makes financial sense for employers to make the workplace safer: they can therefore reduce their salary expenses and save money. "
Like this exam, the company thinks that the more work-related injuries, the higher the salary, so the safer the working environment, the more money you can save. Candidates can analyze from the perspective of an untenable assumption in the materials:
1) The cost of improving the working environment is lower than the cost of raising wages;
2) think that only financial influence can improve the working environment;
3) Think that all working environments can be improved.
This is just one of the analysis angles. The creative principle in GMAT exam hopes that students can analyze problems from different angles.
02 comprehensive reasoning
① Chart interpretation: Understand the chart or image accurately and fill in the blanks with correct answers.
Table analysis: analyze a classifiable data table to determine whether the statement is correct.
③ Two-stage analysis: The problem solving consists of two parts, and the optional answers will be presented in the form of a list, with one column for each part.
④ Multi-source reasoning: Answer questions with different data under two or three tabs.
As leaders, the most important skill they need to demonstrate is to analyze a large amount of data and make reasonable decisions in a rapidly changing business environment. The comprehensive reasoning part of GMAT is the basis of completing the above tasks. Candidates need to find relevant information that can solve problems from multiple sources and different forms of data.
03 mathematics
The quantitative analysis part examines students' abilities of mathematical reasoning, solving mathematical problems and interpreting graphic data. Problem solving and data adequacy judgment require knowledge of arithmetic, basic algebra and common geometric concepts.
The content of quantitative analysis is equivalent to the difficulty of ordinary math problems in domestic senior high schools, which is not difficult for China students. However, because this is an English math problem, candidates must first understand this problem and be familiar with GMAT quantitative analysis.
04 Chinese
This part is the most difficult part of the whole exam, and it is also the part that separates the candidates, including reading questions, logical reasoning questions and sentence correction questions. The proportion of these three types of questions is not fixed, and the exam is out of order. The problem of this module is best solved by elimination, so as to avoid not choosing the best option because you don't see the options clearly. Reading questions are similar to most English exams, but candidates are required to find key clues quickly.
The problem of logical reasoning is also mentioned above, which is to analyze causality and conditional sufficiency according to materials. Sentence correction is actually a grammatical correction problem. GMAT's grammar questions follow their own grammar rules and will be listed on OG. Sometimes some English expressions or oral expressions will be considered as mistakes in grammar questions. Candidates should not take the grammar they have learned before as the standard, but should carefully read the grammar rules and examples given by the government.
