How to strengthen the management of current and back issues in our library
Improve the quality of periodical managers;

The essence of library work is service, and everything is for readers. For many years, the library's standards for measuring the quality of periodical work have remained on the superficial work of documents, such as opening doors on time, putting them on shelves in time, sorting and binding newspapers and periodicals, counting the number of readers, etc., so the requirements for managers are not high. With the development of library automation, it will be an information center with informationization, networking, digitalization and multifunction. Therefore, librarians should not only strengthen their professional knowledge, but also be familiar with all aspects of information about periodicals, including the content, influence and status of documents, and reveal them through various channels, so that readers can obtain periodical demand information more quickly, accurately, comprehensively and effectively.

First of all, according to the characteristics of the reading room itself, reasonable shelving should be carried out. The library of our college divides the reading room into two parts: current issue and back issue, and divides the publications into various categories according to their nature, such as architecture, electromechanical, information engineering, light industry, biochemistry and so on. , and give each type of publication a general shelf number and shelf number, and mark the corresponding shelf number of each magazine in the current period, and then stick eye-catching classification marks, so that readers can put the magazines in the right position and classify them after reading.

Secondly, we take some specific monitoring measures to carry out extensive and in-depth publicity and education for readers. In order to prevent the loss and tearing of periodicals, we have formulated a strict punishment system. In addition, our librarians get in touch with various departments and departments, introduce the library to freshmen every year, use the library and understand the importance of caring for books and periodicals. In a word, improving readers' ideological consciousness is the fundamental solution to the problem of book loss.

Thirdly, to improve the service level, the service object of university library is teachers and students, and the library is an important position to broaden students' horizons, cultivate students' learning ability and improve their quality. The service concept of periodical managers, their love for periodicals, their understanding of readers' needs and providing perfect consulting services for readers will enhance the relationship between librarians and readers and be conducive to the management and utilization of books and periodicals.

Periodical management is the whole process of collecting, binding and keeping current periodicals, the technical treatment of collection and the basic work of service. Back issues store a large number of continuous literature information, which is the key literature information for teaching and scientific research personnel to query original materials. The basic work of back issue management is the binding of current issues. Take our school as an example. Every spring, as soon as school starts, we sort out and subscribe to the periodicals of the previous year. This can not only avoid data loss, but also facilitate the long-term complete preservation of the data system, which is convenient for daily management and readers' use. Check carefully before binding to ensure the continuity and integrity of the journal. The binding of off-shelf periodicals should be carried out in stages to avoid overstock and affect readers' utilization. The bound periodicals should be put into the back issue reading room in time, and the back issues should be standardized and managed for readers to read. Scraping the expired periodicals that have lost their practical significance, are incomplete, repetitive and have low utilization rate can reduce the frequent turnover of periodicals, reduce the repeated work of staff, and be more conducive to optimizing the collection structure, thus improving the number and utilization rate of periodicals in the collection.
