How to help children choose books
Many friends wrote to ask how to choose books for their children, hoping I could recommend some books. I gave some principles and points for attention in the book "Don't read useful books" and "Good reading and bad reading". Please read those two articles first. This paper also gives some suggestions: First, preschool children should mainly read picture books. More than one parent said that after reading my book, they knew that they should let their children read words instead of pictures, so they bought them a book based on words, but the children didn't like it. In fact, his children are only two or three years old. This situation surprised me. There is an article in my book "Good reading and bad reading" that says "Good reading and bad reading and looking at pictures", which is aimed at older children and really reading. Preschool children's reading is actually only the preparatory stage of reading, mainly to cultivate children's interest in books and know some words through reading. Interest must be the center. How can such a young child be interested in so many words? Parents' understanding of problems must not be too mechanical and flexible. As for what children should read in this period, I can't say in detail. First, I haven't bought children's books for many years and don't understand the situation in recent years; Second, children's books emerge one after another, and there are many books to read. As long as there is no unhealthy content, you can watch anything. It is better to buy more, and children can watch whatever they like. Specifically, how to choose so many dazzling children's books? Please see the third suggestion below. Of course, fairy tales that have been circulated for many years are really good, and it is best to read them to children, such as China's ancient fairy tales, Andersen's fairy tales and Grimm's fairy tales. Second, don't care too much about the correspondence between age and reading list. Some parents ask their 3-year-old children what books to read, or ask them what books to read. This is a difficult question to answer. Extracurricular reading is not homework, and there is no question of what books to read at which age and grade. Children before the age of four or five have little difference in reading, and generally read picture books. But after the age of six, children will show obvious differences in reading level and interest based on different reading foundations and their own interests. So what books a child should read, don't care too much about his age and grade, but mainly look at his previous reading foundation and his interests. For example, children in the third grade of primary school may have seldom studied before and have insufficient literacy. It is obviously unrealistic to recommend reading pure text works; But some children have read many novels and can recommend some advanced works. Whether a book is suitable for children, the most important thing is to see whether he is willing to read it, as long as the children are willing. Don't artificially raise the height and don't artificially hinder it. Of course, this does not oppose that parents can intentionally promote their children to improve their reading taste, as I wrote in the book Reading Needs Temptation. Third, we should choose the works published by regular publishing houses, especially some famous societies. Some parents may buy stall books (including pirated books) for their children for reasons such as cheapness or convenience, which is not worth the candle. Stall books (pirated books) not only have poor printing quality and many typos, but also have unhealthy contents. A parent wrote to me that she bought a book for her child from a stall. The stories and pictures in it are so horrible that the children dare not sleep alone anymore. Fear is not good for children's mental health. As for which publishers are trustworthy, it is inconvenient and impossible for me to list them here. Parents themselves should have common sense and judgment in this regard. One of the safest ways is to buy it at a regular Xinhua Bookstore or a reputable website. Third, which book to choose: classic first, word of mouth second. Good books can be handed down, and those that have been handed down for many years can be called "classics". Therefore, it is generally not wrong to buy books and choose masterpieces. For example, a dream of red mansions, who would choose the wrong one? But there are too many books on the market at present, and it is too late to wait for the big waves to wash the sand. What should I do if I just watch the propaganda and get fooled from time to time? There is a simple way: read readers' comments online and read more. If you only read a few books, it may be inaccurate. Reading more comments will leave a comprehensive impression. However, everything is not absolute. Now some publishing houses deliberately make false comments and lists on the Internet. Take a well-known book website as an example: a book suddenly won a lot of five stars in a very short time, and basically no one, two, three or four stars. It entered the five-star list for life or disappeared soon after it attracted people's attention on the five-star list. So in my experience, a book can get 65-75% five stars and 65,438+05-20% four stars on Dangdang, which adds up to 85-95%, which is a good book. If only five stars get more than 90%, it is probably the result of human operation. There is another way to identify it, that is, look at the "cumulative list" of Dangdang's five-star list, not the recent ranking, and you will see some truths. So: If you buy a good book, you'd better leave a message. I bought a bad book, so I will leave a message. Carry forward the spirit of mutual assistance. Fourth, "what parents want their children to see" and "what children want to see" should be combined. Of course, when the child is too young, parents have to choose, but after the child goes to school and can study by himself, he must be given a certain choice, and parents should not "make books for him." Always take your child to a bookstore or library to familiarize him with the environment and get used to which book he chooses to read. Parents should also recommend some to their children. People generally recommend what they have read and liked, which is the most convenient and accurate. If some parents don't like reading and really don't know what to recommend, they can ask the people around them who love reading. If you really can't ask anyone, go online-the method is the same as three. Some books are bought back, and children don't like to read them, so they can be tempted appropriately. If the child really doesn't want to read, don't force it. Especially when children choose this book by themselves, parents must not blame their children for not reading it: didn't you choose this book by yourself? Why don't you buy it and watch it? This will hurt children's self-esteem and interest in reading. It is also cost-effective to waste some money in this respect. It is important to stimulate children's interest in reading and let them find their favorite books. 5. Books I think are worth reading: I recommend only those that my daughter and I like better, or those that Yuanyuan bought herself and felt good. Because this aspect has never been summarized, I can only list some of them by impression, and I will think about others later and add them. For parents' reference only. 1. The complete works of Jin Yong's martial arts novels. (Old words, suspense, easy to attract children to read) 2. Zheng fairy tale series. (imaginative, interesting and individual) 3. Four classic novels: Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin, Journey to the West and Dream of Red Mansions (a well-known China classic) 4. Muslim Funeral (Huo Da), River in the North, Dark Horse (Zhang Chengzhi) (pure and profound) 5. John christopher. 6? 1 Roland) Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brontexq), Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen), David Copperfield (Dickens), Conseil loves Carol (George? 6? 1 sang) One Hundred Years of Solitude (Garcia Marquez), Confessions (Rousseau) (foreign classic) 6. Tolerance, the story of human nature (Long Fang) (the most beautiful philosophy and history) 7. Essays by San Mao, Bi Shumin, Yu, Zhang Chengzhi and Zhou. (Representing the best writing level in contemporary China) 8. Harry Potter series and The Lord of the Rings series. Books that appeal to children all over the world will certainly appeal to your children. Books by young writers such as Han Han and Zhang Yueran, especially their masterpieces. Show it to middle school children. Children need some reading materials close to their age. Dear parents and readers, if you have any good books you have read, or if your children have any special favorite books, please post them here and recommend them to everyone. thank you
