With the development of social economy, environmental protection and construction are becoming more and more urgent. In order to inherit and carry forward the fine tradition of plant landscaping in China, it is urgent to further understand, protect, study, develop and utilize ornamental plants in China. Therefore, 9 volumes of Illustrated Series of Ornamental Plants in China were specially edited, namely woody ornamental plants, herbaceous ornamental plants (I) and herbaceous ornamental plants (II).
In principle, there are 100 kinds of books in each episode (not including varieties and varieties), which are mainly groups originating from China or concentrated in China, and also include some famous flowers and trees introduced from China in early years and widely used in China gardens. In order to facilitate reference and use, the plant groups in the series are arranged in the order of ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms in principle. The order of families is Qin Renchang system (Journal of Plant Taxonomy,1978); Gymnosperms according to Zheng's system (Flora of China, Vol.7,1978); The angiosperms are arranged according to the john hutchinson system (J. Hutchsion, Flowering Plants, 1934). The order of genus names and the names of each species (specific titles) are arranged in Latin letters. At the end of each book, there is an index of Chinese and Latin names of plants.
