After Jinsha River and Minjiang River meet in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, this great river flowing eastward is officially called Yangtze River. Before the founding of New China, there was no bridge on the Yangtze River, so it was inconvenient to cross the river by ferry. After the founding of New China, at the end of 1954, the first Yangtze River Bridge was built on the Yangtze River, which was built by the Soviet Union.

After the reform and opening up, especially since 1995, with the diversification of construction funds (originally all funded by the state, no toll will be charged after completion; Nowadays, with the rapid development of various forms of financing, loans and bridge-building technology, a large number of long-span Yangtze River bridges with high investment and high technology have been built like mushrooms after rain.

On February 28th, 2008, Wuhan Yangtze River Tunnel, the first tunnel of Wanli Yangtze River, was completed and opened to traffic.

There are 46 bridges built or under construction in Jinsha River, Tongtianhe River and Tuotuo River, which are distributed along the main stream of the Yangtze River (due to the small scale of bridge construction above Jinsha River and low capital demand, local governments at the provincial, municipal and county levels may have their own bridge construction plans, so it is difficult to make accurate statistics, so bridges designed or planned but not officially started are not included). Therefore, there are 105 bridges (including tunnels) on the Yangtze River and their main sources: Jinsha River, Tongtian River and Tuotuo!
