University libraries are different types of libraries. Their main task is to support teaching and scientific research in universities and provide professional and academic services. The collection resources are also very different from public libraries, which are very professional and will be focused according to the type of school. For example, science and engineering colleges must collect more engineering documents.
Of course, apart from these two kinds of libraries, there are many types. Different types of libraries have specific service objects, and one library cannot be required to meet everyone's needs.
From my own experience, I think it is absolutely forbidden to open to the outside world, which will really make a mess. The first is the resource problem (including building area, library resources, personnel, etc. ) At present, the main significance of university libraries for students is to provide learning space, but I believe that there are not enough library seats in every school. At the end of the term, there will be a long queue at the door of the library before it opens, and its own students will not be able to serve. How can we provide quality services to the public? Moreover, the specialty of university library collection resources can not meet the needs of most social groups. Secondly, the management problem, no offense, but the social group is very complex, with high and low quality, and the group of college students and teachers is relatively single. If we open to the outside world, the management difficulty will rise, and even college students need library training when they just go to college, but we can't train everyone. If you don't even know the basic usage, you don't know what impact it will have on library resources. For example, some people may steal books, collect books, destroy books, and leave them everywhere after reading. Not to mention the social crowd, many students will do this kind of thing. Before I went to college, I really didn't know that the books in the library should be put on the bookcase after reading, and I couldn't just put them back on the shelf. Books in the library have to be classified and put on shelves, which greatly increases the workload of staff. Of course, I don't understand why the library can only enter by swiping the card. It feels too tricky.
