The Department of Library, Information and Archives of Shanghai University was founded in 1978, and has gone through nearly 40 years of development. Formerly known as the Department of Library Science of Fudan University, the major of library and information science was set at 1978, and the major of archival science was set at 198 1, which started earlier in China.

1May, 994, after the establishment of New Shanghai University, the Archives Department of College of Literature of Shanghai University was established.
