Haidian Book City, said to be a "city", is actually just an alley surrounded by several low-rise buildings and a north-south pedestrian street. At the southern end of the street is a Chinese archway. The seven words "China Haidian Bookstore" on the archway are the inscription of President Li Xiannian. At the northern end of the street is the North Fourth Ring Road.
