Jilin University Library, formerly known as Northeast Administrative College Library, was founded in Harbin, 1946. 1948 merged with Harbin University Library. 1952 was renamed the Library of Northeast Renmin University. 1958 changed its name to Jilin University Library. In June 2000, the former Jilin University, Jilin University of Technology, Bethune Medical University, changchun university of science and technology and Changchun University of Posts and Telecommunications merged to form a new Jilin University, and the libraries of the former five universities were also merged.
A multi-type and multi-carrier comprehensive literature resource system with humanities and social sciences, sciences, engineering and technical sciences, medicine, geological sciences and information sciences as the main body has been established, covering all thirteen disciplines such as humanities and social sciences, sciences, engineering, agriculture, medicine and military affairs. There are more than 5.85 million paper books and periodicals, including 400,000 ancient books, including more than 6,000 rare books. The collections of local chronicles and genealogy, epigraphy rubbings and China ancient documents are among the best in university libraries. The library pays attention to the construction of digital literature resources, and has successively purchased 48 western literature databases such as web of science and EI, 4 Chinese databases such as China HowNet, and 0.4 million e-books such as superstars and scholars, and built 2 databases such as Northeast Asia research, geoscience, automobiles and Manchuria Railway.
Jilin University Library is now the northeast center of China Higher Education Document Guarantee System (CADAL), the member library of China Academic Digital Joint Library Project, the northeast regional center of China Academic Humanities and Social Sciences Library, the stack room of liberal arts library introduced by the Ministry of Education, the foreign language teaching material center of chemistry subject of the Ministry of Education, the second batch of national key protection units of ancient books of the Ministry of Culture, the sci-tech novelty retrieval workstation of the Ministry of Education, and the library where the secretariat of Jilin University Library Working Committee is located.
