Moderator: The interview officially started. The first question is to ask Director Cui. I want to ask about the history and origin of popularizing eye exercises in schools, because in the previous chat, you told me that you had participated in some related work of eye exercises.
Cui: Actually, in the last century 1963 and 1964, I happened to be a person doing eye exercises. At that time, eye exercises had just started in Beijing. At that time, I didn't notice the origin and development of eye exercises, but I didn't know it until after work because it involved this problem.
Gao Quan: Liu Zhiming (homophonic).
Cui: In the teaching process, he is very good at studying meridians, massage and traditional Chinese medicine. It seems that his eyesight is not good because of the operation. According to his own experience, he compiled a set of eye exercises to do by himself, which improved his eyesight in the process. Later, he summed up his experience and introduced ten eye exercises, which were later published in newspapers such as Beijing Evening News.
Gao Quan: I would like to add that in 1963, because the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education proposed to protect students' eyesight at that time, Teacher Liu attached great importance to this research. At that time, Mr. Liu from the Department of Physical Education of Beijing Medical College, the old stationmaster of Beijing Health and Epidemic Prevention Station, and the ophthalmologist of Guang 'an Hospital developed a set of eye exercises, which were later developed and still implemented in schools. It is based on the meridian theory of Chinese medicine and the principle of massage therapy.
Cui: 1984, 1985, Beijing promoted eye exercises, and part of them promoted popular science. At that time, they moved to Beijing Health Education Institute. At that time, we had an editor named Bi Xiaoman (homophonic), who took this to find Professor Gao (homophonic) in Tongren Hospital. Because before this, Chinese medicine experts demonstrated scientific medication, but Bi Xiaoman found Professor Gao with something. Professor Gao wrote a sentence saying that eye exercises were good and worth popularizing. Because of the time, it was lost later. Later, in the early 1990s, it was called the School Health Department of Beijing Health and Epidemic Prevention Station, and told me that in the process of implementation, there were music, tapes and records, but the records were inconvenient. Can you make suitable tapes to spread in schools? Then I took over the task.
Cui: After taking over the task, I first found the professor who was in the Third Hospital of Beijing Medical University. After reading the information, he was also very supportive, appreciated eye exercises and wrote an inscription for us. Now some schools have an inscription by teacher Li Fuming on the wall chart of eye exercises. The tape we played was performed by the coal mine art troupe, and we made the tape together. Later it evolved into a five-day exercise. However, due to the relationship between the time of doing eye exercises and the stretching of music, students pay more attention to overlooking and relaxing. It seems that the sixth day has appeared again, but it is actually five days. This makes it very convenient for schools to do eye exercises, and pressing the button at any time can ensure the smooth music when students do eye exercises. The music is particularly euphemistic and pleasant, and there is a feeling of relaxation. This is the result of the joint efforts of Mr. Yan Yongyi from the Education Bureau and many comrades from Beijing Health and Epidemic Prevention Station.
