The main types of book thieves

One kind is habitual thieves, and some have developed into book stealing groups, including floating population, three no personnel, and some students are involved. They steal books as their profession, go out in person or hire people to do it for them, and wander around bookstores looking for opportunities. They are experienced and know all kinds of burglar alarms, magnetic strips and TV monitors like the back of their hands. They avoid people's eyes and ears, and often succeed again and again when salespeople look around. They have clear goals and often follow the trend. Their sales channels are smooth and self-contained, or they subscribe to the catalogue among their classmates first, with a clear purpose; Or set up a stall on the street, no business. This kind of people often behave abnormally, and their faces are familiar, which has become the focus of bookstore prevention and they hate it. Once caught by the store, it will play a role and return the book on the grounds that there is no money; It doesn't matter if you give it to the police. Even if it is recorded, what can it be? After yelling, you can find another party and wait for a comeback.

The other kind is stealing occasionally, mostly for students. Or study is compulsory, or enjoy it in my spare time, and because of lack of money, I am greedy for a while. Once or twice, I was lucky enough to get through, but I was pleasantly surprised; Once caught, they will cry bitterly, be scolded and punished, and just want to keep secret and save face. The store called it a "race with a strong sense of repentance" and was tolerant of it. After criticism and education, it failed.

There is another one, who neither lives by it nor loves books, but laments the boredom and boredom of life and looks for adventure and excitement. Or the three of us make a bet to test the preventive ability of the merchants. It is not shameful when the alarm rings, so "stealing books is not stealing!" "A dozen? Hey? " And so on, make people feel that their legal consciousness is weak and their moral consciousness is declining. Among these three categories, the second category is mostly accidental book theft, which is also the key target of merchants. (Refer to the publication date of shoplifting and prevention? 200 1-02-2

Beware of all kinds of stealing books.

Case: Yu Yang, manager of book city management center of Wenxuan chain company in Sichuan, said that they found some book thieves wearing special clothes with many pockets inside. Some people pass stolen books out of the toilet window. Some people go back to the bookstore with their schoolbags after buying books, and then put the stolen books in their schoolbags to muddle through. Some people cheat cashiers by changing the magnetic stripe of cheap books for Cheng Gui books. Some take out the magnetic stripe or tear it off in the bathroom. And simply degaussing the book with a degausser. Shops in Zhuhai found thieves degaussing books to escape the burglar alarm at the door.

Case: In Sisyphus, some gangs are so arrogant that they rob books from bookstores. They left expensive books with high yards at the door and rushed out of the bookstore when the salesman was not ready to get them.

Case: Li Yubin, manager of Harbin Children's Bookstore, told the reporter that in recent years, the bookstore in Harbin has organized a Swan Book Fair every year. During the book fair, the color of the seal and inkpad of the bookstore is different every day. Even so, when the door opens at 9 am, there are still middle school students who copy seals and inkpad and steal books in the afternoon, which is really impossible to prevent.

Ten rules of bookstore anti-theft

1. Actively provide services for customers (including "non-customers") and deepen their understanding;

2. Arrange enough employees in a specific area to ensure that they know what is happening in every corner of the store;

3. Train employees to be sensitive to abnormal situations;

4. Install Epos system or other sales statistics software;

5. Try to get rid of the tall and blocked rotating booth;

6. Don't be afraid to adopt modern retail layout: clean, well-lit and open shops;

7. If you use in-store detectives, manage them well;

8. Determine the dead angle in the store;

9. Buy less each time and increase the frequency of purchase;

10. communicate with nearby retailers, and it is best to join local chambers of commerce or other cooperative organizations.

Anti-theft skill

When it comes to anti-theft in bookstores, people always say that high technology costs a lot of money and is not necessarily suitable for independent bookstores and small chain stores. In the bookstore in Stamford, the researchers found that the anti-theft measures here are neither expensive nor high-tech, but they are very effective.

Shop assistants are the first barrier against theft. The warm service makes every customer realize that the clerk knows what happened. One thing that people can do but machines can't do is that people can tell who is not a customer. Of course, this ability needs training.

Two effective measures: first, spend 10 minutes observing customers; Second, ask a colleague loudly: "Where is the security officer?" .

In any retailer, the clerk is the core element. Implementing the most basic customer service rules is extremely important for anti-theft. The warm service makes every customer realize that the clerk knows what happened. It is also useful to know your customers. The more clients you know, the fewer people you need to be wary of. You can arrange employees in the most accident-prone corners, so that those places are under control. One thing that people can do but machines can't do is that people can tell who is not a customer. Of course, having this ability requires training. The first step is to spend 10 minutes to observe customers' shopping, including their eyes, head movements, how to show their interest in books, how to browse books, how to dress up and so on. These can be used to identify who is a "stranger". We know that thieves always care more about the people staring at them than the books on the shelves, so they often look unnatural. Keeping a close eye on such people for 30 seconds can prevent most thefts. If this doesn't work, ask your colleague loudly "Where is the security officer" (even if you don't have a security officer at all), and you can get that guy to retreat quickly. Case 1: Due to frequent thefts, the Literature and History Bookstore on Wensan Road in Hangzhou recently stipulated that no one can enter except teachers, graduate students and bookstore members. It turned out that the literature and history bookstore posted a notice at the door, pointing out that some professional book stealing groups have frequently patronized bookstores and stolen books in batches recently, which has caused tens of thousands of RMB losses to bookstores. Therefore, the bookstore will be limited to open, and readers need to show their membership cards, teacher certificates, graduate certificates or other documents recognized by the bookstore before they can buy books in it.

Hangzhou Literature and History Bookstore is limited to open to prevent elegant thieves. Although it is an extreme practice, it is really out of helplessness. Wang, general manager of the bookstore, said: "Books that lose thousands of dollars every day are higher than the turnover. Is there no limit? " Moreover, the literature and history bookstore is different from the general comprehensive bookstore. Our readers are relatively narrow, and limited opening has little impact on turnover. Case 2: Li Jiang, Shanghai Book City, attributed the anti-theft measures to civil air defense and technical defense. Civil air defense refers to salespeople or security guards patrolling at the entrance of the bookstore or in the store. Technical defense refers to the security monitoring system in which books are magnetized, security doors are placed at the door or probes are set in the store and connected to the monitoring center. Li Jiang said that ordinary readers go to bookstores to read books, book thieves look at people and see where salespeople and security guards are, which provides conditions for civil air defense. Technical defense, especially anti-theft door, is considered as an effective anti-theft measure by various bookstores. Case 3: Sisyphus Bookstore in Guizhou adopted the method of "psychological deterrence". When the salesperson found someone suspicious, he kept offering him services: "What book are you looking for?" "What books do you like?" what can I do for you? Hint that you have attracted attention, don't make a move. (refer to the publication date of "The Game with the Elegant Thief"? 2003-05-23)

Case 4: Chongqing Classic Bookstore uses posters to remind readers not to steal books. In the bookstore, there are posters such as "Keep the contents of the book in mind, but don't put it in the bag" and "Reading is elegant and stealing books is unqualified", reminding readers not to steal books from time to time. Anti-theft measures of bookstore

Reserve management, manpower prevention and electronic monitoring are two-pronged methods.

Electronic monitoring, that is, hidden monitoring. General large and medium-sized bookstores and some fast-growing small bookstores generally take this measure. In addition, some bookstores have also adjusted the layout of their stores, such as setting up parcel storage offices at the expense of storefronts; Or set up a cashier at the entrance of the passage like a supermarket; Or supervise the flow of books through the number and way of books.

At present, the anti-theft technology of books around the world mainly adopts the following two methods:

A, closed-circuit television monitoring

This method has a certain deterrent effect, but it is unrealistic to let the VIP foreman stare at the TV screen for a long time. Besides, there is a dead corner in the store, and this monitoring method is not effective. Therefore, it is only a deterrent gesture after installation in many bookstores in China, and the anti-theft effect is not good.

Second, the commodity anti-theft system

It mainly consists of two parts: 1. The detection system mainly detects the hidden position of stolen goods; 2. Anti-theft label, hidden in goods or books. Anti-theft labels are consumables, which require good concealment, good performance and low price.

Commodity anti-theft system is mainly divided into three categories:

1. acousto-magnetic system. The channel protection distance of the system is wide, and the maximum width can reach 3.5 meters. The working frequency range belongs to the low frequency range and is harmless to human body. However, its label is thick, its concealment is poor and its price is relatively high.

2. Radio frequency system. Due to the high frequency and low directivity of electromagnetic waves, the channel distance of this system is generally1m ~1.2m. Its labels look like bar codes, and the price of a piece is generally between 0.2 and 0.3 yuan.

3. Low frequency system (also called electromagnetic wave system). The working frequency of the system is very low, which is harmless to human body. The channel distance of the system is relatively narrow, generally between 0.7m ~1m. Its label adopts long and thin strips, which has the best concealment among anti-theft labels and is cheaper. Domestic labels are only a few cents each, so they are widely used in China.
