What qualifications should a librarian have?
1 Understand the definition of library science. Library science includes library management, the preservation, archiving and dissemination of information materials, the development of information technology and related teaching research. Librarians can study any of these majors, but many positions actually require them to be "generalists" with multi-domain knowledge. The work of librarians includes the following contents: classification and classification of library databases; Optimize data organization and classification methods; Using new technology to update the organization of old collections; Use empirical research methods to solve related problems; Promote the implementation of educational programs for students or other members of the public; Management of library departments and employees; Update the library collection in time; The title of Figure 2 is becoming a librarian. Step 02: Understand the types of librarians. Maybe you are interested in becoming a librarian in a children's library, or you want to organize scientific materials. But we should know that different types of librarians have different responsibilities. Public libraries generally have many branches, which are convenient for the public to apply for library cards, and offer many public education courses that help to improve readers' reading level, which plays an extremely important role in providing free materials for the public. Accordingly, the librarians of public libraries should not only be responsible for collection renewal, inter-library communication and public system maintenance, but also undertake the responsibility of serving readers. The school library is an important part of primary and secondary schools, providing students with all kinds of books and materials that are beneficial to their all-round development. The main job of school librarians is to cultivate students' research ability, enhance students' interest in reading, and of course, be responsible for the daily operation of the library. Most academic libraries are located in university campuses, and their collections are often very rich because they want to meet the needs of students for further research. University libraries generally set up branches of law, natural science and art independently according to different disciplines. Generally, university libraries have special information desks to arrange librarians to catalog new materials and archive professional materials, so as to ensure the timely updating of books and answer questions for students at any time. Librarians in university libraries generally need a double degree, which can be law or other related disciplines. The title of figure 3 is the third step to become a librarian. What does a qualified librarian need? Many people are willing to work as librarians because they like reading, but this love is not enough. A good librarian should not only have a strong interest in knowledge, but also be good at sorting out and saving materials to facilitate readers' retrieval and utilization. Therefore, many librarians describe library science as "information enjoyment". At present, with the rapid development of information technology, librarians should keep up with the pace of technological update. Some library science projects even need a certain coding ability. Not all librarians have to deal with the public. Some librarians pay more attention to the classification and cataloging of materials in the library, so as long as you are keen on information collection, you can do a lot of things in the library. Figure 4: Step 04: Arrange exchanges and visits with librarians to enhance understanding. Whether it is a public library, a school library or a professional library, if there is a librarian you are interested in, you might as well meet him to discuss and consult some more in-depth topics. Ask him/her specific job responsibilities to see if they meet your expectations. Ask them why they choose to be librarians and what special qualities librarians need. Ask them about the master's course in library science, which is worth recommending.
