East China University of Science and Technology was originally named East China Institute of Chemical Technology. It was jointly established by Jiaotong University, Aurora University, Datong University, Soochow University and the Department of Chemical Engineering of Jiangnan University, with the number 1952. Renamed on 1993.

1956 was designated as one of the first schools in China to recruit graduate students; 1960 was identified as a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education; 1996 became the national "2 1 1 project" key construction university.

As of 202 1 and 1, the school has three campuses, Xuhui, Fengxian and Jinshan, covering an area of 2,535 mu, with a building area of 970,000 square meters and a library of 3.26 million books. 18 college, with 73 undergraduate majors.

As of May 20 18, the school has five professional colleges and non-professional departments, such as online education college, continuing education college, international education college, international engineer college (Sino-German Institute of Technology) and Marxist Institute (Humanities Research Institute), and enrolled 68 undergraduate majors.

Academic construction:

As of May 20 18, the school has 20 national excellent courses, 4 national excellent resources 14, 4 national excellent video open courses, 3 national bilingual demonstration courses and 90 Shanghai excellent courses.

There are 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers and 3 Shanghai experimental teaching demonstration centers. There are 12 national specialties and 5 national engineering practice education centers.

There are national demonstration engineering degree graduate joint training bases, demonstration experimental areas for cultivating college students' entrepreneurial talents, and experimental bases for innovation and entrepreneurship education in Shanghai universities. Since 2000, he has presided over the national educational reform project 16, won the national teaching achievement award 19, and built 68 national planning textbooks in the 11th and 12th Five-Year Plans, and won the national award 10.

The school has established a multi-channel, multi-level and all-round international cooperation and exchange system, and established extensive long-term academic exchange relations and international educational resource sharing platforms with more than 200 universities and research institutions such as the United States, Germany, Britain and France.
