By the end of 2008, Shanxi Library had 15 departments and employed 186 people, including 166 professionals, with a total collection of 3150,000 volumes (pieces). Among them, Shazangji in Song and Yuan Dynasties, Xiangyang County Records in Ming Dynasty, Wang Zhuangyuan's Annotations and the Classification of Mr. Dongpo's Poems in Jianyang in Yuan Dynasty, Haiji in Wanli Period of Ming Dynasty, and Ancient and Modern Books Collection in Yongzheng Copper Plate Printing in Qing Dynasty are rare rare books in China.

In 2009, with the strong support of the provincial party committee and the provincial government, Shanxi Library adopted the most advanced radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in the world for business management and service, which provided a strong technical guarantee for readers to effectively use the anti-theft security of libraries and books. At the same time, in order to realize the universal sharing of digital resources and information services, and create good cultural and social benefits, Shaanxi Branch of the National Digital Library of China was formally established on September 16, 2009. The two sides invested capital, equipment and human resources to promote the implementation and sustainable development of the cooperation project between digital library and branch libraries.
