At first, I thought the whole book was enough for library work, but later I found it was not as simple as I thought. There are a large number of books in the library, and there are many different versions of the same book, so it is necessary to search patiently on the shelves. According to the staff, when they first came, they needed a month's training to find the location of the book quickly. Moreover, because some readers did not put the books back after reading, or found a place to insert them at random when borrowing, some books were placed in the wrong place, which made it difficult for library management. There are still some disharmonious phenomena in the library. For example, some students don't have to substitute books, and some make loud noises, which need our attention. The key is to help students develop good borrowing habits.
The library has the function of implementing social education since its birth. This time, I learned more about the importance of the library in cultivating readers, and also realized the significance of reading in cultivating our own cultural literacy. As Goethe said: "Reading a good book is talking to many noble people." Gorky once said: "Books inspired my wisdom and soul, and they helped me get out of the putrid quagmire. Without them, I would be submerged in it and suffocated by stupid and despicable things. " What I am most happy about after my actual work is that I can read a lot of books. I am very happy to study and practice here, but I still have a lot to learn to be a qualified librarian.
"I think it's an armchair strategist. I don't know if it should be done." As a freshman, I hold the desire to be close to the society and exercise myself.
Generally speaking, the library's book processing business can be divided into two levels from the business level: one is the processing of document content, which is what we usually call cataloging processing. Including document classification, indexing, subject analysis, document description, etc. One is the processing of file carrier, that is, simple physical processing. Include magnetic stripe, stamp, serial number, bar code, book label, etc.
On Monday morning, the tutor first asked the teacher of the acquisition and editing department to demonstrate the book purchasing process of the acquisition and editing department of our school's book management system, including the process of searching books, placing orders, acceptance, payment, processing and warehousing. Because time is tight, the teacher's introduction is as concise as possible, but it is very concise. It not only makes the steps to be done very clear, but also talks about all aspects that should be paid attention to in the work.
I. Disposal of donation carrier forms
1, accepted. Because these books have not been accepted, they need to be processed after acceptance. These books came by post, so open the bag first. After unpacking, find out the book list sandwiched inside and start acceptance. Find out if there are any missing pages and damaged books. If these books are intact, they can be accepted or returned to the publisher. View the title, publisher, author, price, album number and other details.
2, stick a magnetic stripe. The main purpose of sticking magnetic strips on books is to facilitate computer management.
3. Stick a bar code. Barcodes are used for scanning when borrowing and returning books. So the location of the paste should be accurate and convenient for scanning. Generally speaking, the bar code in front of the book should be posted at the bottom and middle of the collection list. The order of bar codes must not be mistaken in the process of posting, because this work is very critical and easy to make mistakes, so my tutor told me repeatedly when I first started my internship.
4. Post a list of deadlines. The deadline list should be posted in the blank space on the last page of the book so as not to cover the contents of the book. At the beginning, I always draw one piece and stick another. As a result, the speed is very slow and the amount of paste is not sure. Because there is too much glue, I often stick the cover and the last page together. Later, the staff who worked with us in book processing told me that we could take a stack of deadline sheets, separate them gently, and then paste them. Greatly improve the efficiency, basically there will be no problem of too much paste.
5. Paste the book label. The book label is attached to the back of the book, and the book label on the book label is the basis for the library to arrange and retrieve books.
The following six steps, except the first step, are theoretically interchangeable. When processing a book, be careful not to miss any step. This part of the work is basically simple, but it needs full patience.
Second, the document content processing
Document content processing mainly refers to document classification, indexing, subject analysis, document description and so on.
1, classification. First of all, all books are divided into the following basic categories: Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, philosophy, social science, natural science and comprehensive books. When we classify books, on the one hand, we are based on our own experience; on the other hand, if we don't know the categories, we should always consult the reference books in our hands. Through the practice of this step, I know the importance of reference books, and also have a deeper understanding of the classification rules of Chinese Library Classification.
2. Index. Indexing refers to the process of giving information content and some appearance characteristics of documents to document retrieval marks. It is the main content of establishing retrieval tools and retrieval systems. Indexing includes subject indexing, keyword indexing, classification indexing and title indexing. The library of our school adopts the subject indexing method. : (1) Make a thematic analysis of the literature, find out the contents with information value, and summarize these contents into several thematic concepts; (2) According to the needs of users of the retrieval system, making decisions on the selection and treatment of the subject concepts; (3) according to the adopted classification table or thesaurus, and according to the determined indexing method, the theme concept is transformed into a retrieval mark-a classification number or a retrieval word; (4) According to the retrieval marks of the given literature, record the bibliography of the literature.
3. recording. Description is the information description of entity information resources. Machine readable catalogue (MARC) in information resource description method is the premise of computer processing of bibliographic information, and it is also the foundation of bibliographic database. When you record a book, you should first check the copy.
With the development of society, many libraries begin to outsource the simple processing of books at the physical level, and the library itself has invested more time and manpower in the processing of document content (such as knowledge mining) and providing information retrieval consultation for readers. Due to the tight time, there are not many internships in this field, which is deeply regrettable. I hope I can have more opportunities to practice in this field in my future work and study.
I practiced in the library for a week, during which I was taught and helped by library leaders and teachers. At the same time, I have a deeper understanding of this spiritual canteen during the crossover and transformation of the roles of "library ordinary reader" and "library intern".
On weekdays, I often hear from my classmates that there is a light newspaper column, which is convenient! It's nice not to close during the day! With a locked drawer, we can save trouble and feel at ease ... Perhaps, there are many conveniences that we are "used to" and "inadvertently", just as we quickly borrowed a beloved book from the library and found a much-needed information, but we rarely consider the price of this inadvertent or unintentional convenience, just like when eating honey, we rarely think about the busyness and hardships of bees collecting flowers and making honey. This internship made me understand the organization and management system of the library and witnessed the whole process of a book from interview, cataloging to circulation. The labor force needed for the orderly circulation of tens of thousands of books. Let me see the other side of convenience with my own eyes-the staff of the whole library are conscientious and dedicated silently.
What impressed me the most was the relocation of the library during the internship, the exchange and merger of French businessmen, foreign languages, Hong Kong and Taiwan and the book donation hall on the fourth floor, involving the relocation of 230,000 books and a large number of bulky bookshelves. In order to reduce the inconvenience caused by relocation, the whole library mobilized, giving up weekends and even taking a rest at noon. Lunch is a few pieces of bread or a box lunch. If you work overtime until late at night, return the convenience to the reader in advance. When I borrowed books from the spacious law and commercial library, I was excited about my achievements after my labor, leaving me with a long explanation of the word convenience-blood bubbles on my hands, dust on my face and sweat on my face. ...
In this practice, I learned more about the importance of the library in cultivating readers, and also realized the significance of reading in cultivating our own cultural literacy. In modern society, the library is undoubtedly the best place to improve the humanistic quality of college students in China. We should learn to get along with others, enhance team spirit and affinity for nature. In addition to accepting the promotion of humanistic quality education in schools. Therefore, we should make full use of library resources to improve our humanistic quality. As Goethe said: "Reading a good book is talking to many noble people."
In today's society, the poster at the job fair always says "experience first", but how much social experience will our students have on campus? In order to expand my knowledge, expand my contact with society, increase my experience in social competition, exercise and improve my ability, and let myself really go to the society after graduation, so that I can handle all aspects of life and work well. I remember the teacher once said that the school is a small society, but I always feel that there is always that kind of innocence and sincerity on campus. Although it is a university, students still maintain their status. In a word, the social practice this summer vacation is rich and meaningful, and some experiences are exciting, but it can never be described as exciting, because it is a real gain and a feeling of "experience first"
In this practice, there is another point that I feel deeply. At school, we learn a lot of theories, and they cover almost everything. In real life, we may encounter things that we haven't learned in books, or we may not use the knowledge in books at all. Maybe what you use in your work is just a simple question. You can complete a task by setting a formula. Sometimes you will complain that the actual operation is so simple, but why does the knowledge in the book make people learn so hard? Maybe the teacher is right. Although a university is not like a society, it is still a part of it.
During the internship, we conducted a questionnaire survey of library readers and collected a lot of data, from which we found that the library has become an important place for college students to study, and its development has been widely concerned. While giving a good evaluation of the library, most students seem to pay more attention to and look forward to the reform of the library, hoping not only to "eat well" but also to "eat well" in this "canteen" In order to "eat enough", they think it is necessary to extend the opening hours, open more reading rooms on holidays, increase the number of books borrowed, inquire about the types of books and computers, and set up a reading room with all-weather service. In order to "eat well", they are eager for the library to increase the scientific and technological content, strengthen the service function and improve the service consciousness. They expect tomorrow's library to have a canteen, public telephones, online reading, Internet cafes, scanning services, air-conditioned reading rooms and so on. It can be seen that readers put forward new requirements for the comfort and convenience of the library environment. As another ordinary reader, we selfishly hope that in this era of information explosion, the library can provide me with more information and help me capture information faster and more effectively.
During my internship, I learned that the construction of a civilized library is not only a process of librarians' efforts, but also a process of continuous interaction with readers. On weekdays, the library staff patiently answered the questions, which made me very happy. When I went through the formalities of borrowing books for my classmates on the stage as an intern, a gentle thank you or a faint smile from my classmates made me feel like a spring breeze and relaxed. It can be seen that civilization is the dribs and drabs of our mutual respect and understanding. When these bits and pieces become our natural habits, the spring breeze of a scholarly environment is around us. We are confident to do it!
Xx Library, I am full of confidence in you!
