Shanghai Maritime University is a multidisciplinary university featuring shipping, logistics and ocean. Its disciplines include engineering, management, economy, law, literature, science and art. In 2008, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Ministry of Transport signed an agreement to establish Shanghai Maritime University. China's higher maritime education originated in Shanghai. From 65438 to 0909, the Department of Shipping Administration of Shanghai Higher Institute of Technology (Nanyang College) of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications initiated higher maritime education in China in the late Qing Dynasty. Wusong Merchant Shipping School was founded in 19 12 and renamed Wusong Merchant Shipping College in 1933. 1959 The Ministry of Communications established Shanghai Maritime College in Shanghai. In 2004, it was renamed Shanghai Maritime University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In order to better serve the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center and the development of the national shipping industry, according to the adjustment plan of the layout structure of Shanghai universities, in 2008, the main body of Shanghai Maritime University moved to Lingang New City (now Lingang New District of Shanghai Free Trade Zone).
