Fangxian No.1 Middle School is a century-old prestigious school with a long history. Its predecessor can be traced back to 1783 when Mu Qing Academy was established in Fangxian County, 1938 when Fangxian Mu Qing Middle School was formally established, 1940 when it was renamed Chenggong Middle School, and 1956 when it was named Fangxian No.1 Middle School.

In May, 2006, it was awarded "Shiyan Ordinary High School Model School" by Shiyan Municipal Government Education Supervision Office and Shiyan Municipal Education Bureau. In June, 2009, it was awarded "Hubei Ordinary High School Model School" by Hubei Provincial Government Education Supervision Office and Hubei Provincial Department of Education. The school now covers an area of 66,000 square meters with a building area of 45,800 square meters.

There are 58 teaching classes with 3595 students, 248 in-service teachers and 22/kloc-0 full-time teachers, with bachelor degree or above accounting for 98%, 65 senior teachers, 23 graduate teachers and 9 special teachers.
